Where have all the people gone? The airport wasn't bustling. I was walking to the baggage area at 2pm and several of the stores and restaurants were closed inside the terminal.
My fellow passengers were all huddled around a single baggage carousel. None of the other ten or more carousels were in use.
The Hertz lot was mostly empty of vehicles.
It seemed like there was a healthy amount of traffice as I drove around the Kenner area looking for someplace to buy a lawn chair for the Bring Your Own Lawn Chair meeting this evening.
There were a lot of blue tarps and storm damage visible. A good number of stores had not yet opened. You know it's still bad when you see a McDonalds that still hasn't opened. Most of the other restaurants were open and many stores but there were also a lot of empty retail space that was hard to tell if it would open again with the same businesses that had been there before. Several hotels looked like they were in the middle of complete rennovations.
As I headed into New Orleans the traffic was very light, but the lanes leaving the city were full. I'm not sure what that means.
